An all-time classic of Chinese revolutionary cinema by legendary director Xie, this film follows the exploits of a fighting women’s detachment within the Communist revolution. Loosely based on a true story, the action focuses in particular on Wu Qionghua, a slave girl who escapes and seeks revenge against her oppressors. 1961, video, 120 minutes.

Co-presented by the Consortium for the Study of the Asias at the University of Minnesota
