Let’s get the party started! Kick off a summerlong extravaganza commemorating the Minneapolis Sculpture Garden’s 20th anniversary. Savor an array of live music, dance, and art-making activities during this special birthday launch event, part of Minneapolis MOSAIC 2008, a citywide festival celebrating the breadth and diversity of the local art and cultural scene.

Design a toy inspired by the fountain-sculpture Spoonbridge and Cherry, by Claes Oldenburg and Coosje van Bruggen. Led by artist-instructor Susan Brown.
Art-making for the Entire Family: Family Flags

Tent near Spoonbridge and Cherry
Fly your colors over the Garden and tell the Twin Cities what’s unique about your family with a flag that displays the symbols of your heritage and what is important to you today. Led by artist-instructor Betsy Dollar.

Smile—it’s the 150th birthday of Minneapolis and the state of Minnesota! Get your snapshot taken and see it projected at the State Theater later that evening during the kick-off party for MOSAIC 2008.
Dance Performance: Ragamala Music and Dance Theater

Belvedere sculpture
Discover Bharatanatyam, a classical dance form from southern India, with Ragamala Music and Dance Theater. Blending dance, music, and poetry, Ragamala’s work provides a bridge between cultures both ancient and modern. After the show, learn some moves in a workshop led by members of the company.
African Drumming Workshop
2–3 pm
Belvedere sculpture
Join Marc Anderson and Aaron Barnell as they syncopate your slaps into a traditional African rhythm.
